There are many reasons to give blood. Everyone has surely heard the simple fact that your blood donation can help save up to 3 peoples lives. Its an amazing and inexpensive opportunity to help people with great benefits. In order to ensure blood supplies are safe, all blood donations are tested for blood type, Rh groups and red-cell anti-bodies. Each time you donate, the blood is also tested for the following five infectious diseases are tested for using seven different tests:

• HIV/AIDS
• Hepatitis B
• Hepatitis C
• Human T-cell Lymphtropic virus HTLV
• Syphilis

• 18% Surgical patients including open heart surgery and burns

Plasma and Platelets

• Plasma is used to make up to 17 different products containing useful proteins, nutrients and other clotting factors.
• Platelets are extremely valuable to surgical cancer patients to help clot the blood and seal wounds. This is important because of how damaging Leukemia and Chemotherapy treatments can reduce a patients platelet count.

Charity Hub Kick-off

One thing I find with many people, myself included, is that we are constantly told about how bad things are around the world but not usually told how we can make an impact.

One thing I really dislike the people who stand on city footpaths and try and initiate conversations with walker byes in order to talk them into setting up a weekly or monthly payment towards a charity they are advocating. The deal, funnily enough falls flat on its face when the persons bank details are asked for. People are not just going to give out their details to any old person on the street advocating for a charity.

I hope to advocate deserving charities through this site where people can judge for themselves, do their own research, and possibly decide to donate and make an impact which may be on-going or a once off show of good faith.
